cm-size RF tag for low-earth orbit satellite (LEO) localization

Conventional global localization systems like GPS require tag retrieval, which is impractical in some scenarios. To address this, we use low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites to capture RF tag signals, allowing localization based on the signal’s time differential of arrival (TDoA) and frequency differential of arrival (FDoA). However, this typically requires transmitter power close to 40 dBm, preventing miniaturization to centimeter size. To solve this, we are developing algorithms for accurate low-power localization and working on a compact tag that ensures sufficient power and lifespan.
